We moved to Chapel Hill, NC
It’s been a week since we moved to North Carolina. In Chinese internet culture, there’s a romantic notion called a “spur-of-the-moment trip,” meaning to live life without regrets, to act decisively, and to embark on a journey without hesitation. Our move to North Carolina can be seen as such a trip, albeit a gamble that could last four years or more.
In Alabama, we had a comfortable life with a big house and plenty of amenities. Our soccer team wasn’t the strongest, but at least we didn’t face much competition within the squad. However, when Coach Bobo from Triangle United in North Carolina extended an invitation, and considering North Carolina’s superior educational system, we decided to break out of our comfort zone and make this move.
This transition means we’ll temporarily live in an apartment, face financial pressure with two mortgages and a rent almost as high as a mortgage, and deal with fierce competition among talented teammates. Additionally, it means a potential four-year or longer separation from mom. Nevertheless, we believe this challenge will make us stronger, and we are determined to embrace it.
This evening, Coach Bobo led a summer training session with the nine players who stayed in town, preparing for the upcoming season. While we’ve trained with this team twice before as guests, today was our first session as teammates. Compared to our old team, the new teammates’ training pace was faster, and their overall skill level was higher. We believe that growing in this environment will elevate us to new heights.
The new season schedule will be out soon, and we welcome friends who are interested to follow our progress through this link: http://www.sommersydnie.com/games. Thank you all for your support!
